Purpose of the award | Created in 1990, the Vince Lombardi Award of Excellence Dinner Ball was created as a means of recognizing individuals who have made a Hall of Fame contribution to sport, profession or business in a manner that exemplifies appreciation of God, country, society, family and self, not only for the sport, profession or business involved, but to the men, women and children whose lives are enhanced by emulating those standards. In short, the Vince Lombardi Award of Excellence is awarded annually at the charity dinner ball to one whom has captured the spirit of commitment and pursuit of excellence; standards which define the legendary coach Vince Lombardi and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation.
