LEGACY: 55 YEARS OF IMPACT

Coach Vince Lombardi remains one of the most influential figures in American sports history. Best known as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers, Lombardi transformed the team into the dominant force of professional football during the 1960s. Under his leadership, the Packers won five NFL Championships, including victories in Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II. His relentless pursuit of excellence, unwavering discipline, and ability to inspire others made him a symbol of leadership both on and off the field.

In June 1970, Lombardi was diagnosed with an aggressive form of colon cancer. Just ten weeks later, on September 3, 1970, he passed away at the age of 57. His death shocked the nation and underscored the devastating impact of cancer on individuals and families. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the game, the NFL named the Super Bowl championship trophy in his honor, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame shortly after his passing.

Determined to honor Coach Lombardi's memory and continue his legacy of perseverance and excellence, a group of Wisconsin business and community leaders, with the support of his widow, Marie Lombardi, established the first Vince Lombardi Memorial Golf Classic in 1971. Held at North Hills Country Club, the tournament was created to raise funds for cancer research and education in memory of Coach Lombardi.

What began as a local fundraising event quickly grew into a lasting movement, drawing support from athletes, celebrities, businesses, and community members united in the fight against cancer.

Over the past 55 years, that original golf outing has evolved into the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. Guided by the same spirit of determination that defined Coach Lombardi's life, the Foundation has raised over $25 million to advance cancer research, improve patient care, and support innovative treatments.

Today, we continue our mission to prevent cancer, provide superior patient care, and find a cure—ensuring that Vince Lombardi's legacy extends far beyond the football field.
